Youth to benefit from grant success
Yarriambiack Shire Council will receive a grant of $150,000 after applying successfully to the Victorian Government's Engage! 2025-27 program.
This grant will help to deliver Building Youth Leadership for Yarriambiack Shire's Future project over three years.
“The Building Youth Leadership program will be delivered by the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation (WBCF) in partnership with Yarriambiack Shire Council and our shire's three secondary colleges," council CEO Tammy Smith said.
“The program aims to empower young people aged 12-18 through leadership training, mentorship and community projects.
"Leveraging WBCF’s reputation and appeal, particularly through football, the program effectively engages youth, providing a dynamic experience that traditional council programs have struggled to achieve.
“The project’s objectives include building leadership skills by offering workshops decided by youth and may include public speaking, teamwork and project management tailored to equip participants with practical skills for future roles in their communities and careers."
Council collaborated with WBCF last year to implement youth leadership programs throughout the shire.
Ms Smith said the additional funding would further enhance the initiative.
