SARGENT (nee FREETH), Elizabeth Emily (Betty)

aged 97, passed away on 12 October 2025.

Betty was born in Murtoa on 17 July 1928, the youngest child of Norman and Kathleen Freeth (nee Lythgo). After adventures near and far, she was married in Murtoa to Hugh on 4 April 1959 and raised two children, Donald and Meredith. Betty and Hugh retired to Halls Gap in 1989 and finally settled in Stawell in 2002. Betty was a resident at Macpherson Smith Residential Care in Stawell at the time of her death. Betty is predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law Norman & Angela, William & Evelyn, Edward & Jean and Samuel (Mick) & Glad, by her loved husband and companion Hugh and their stillborn son David, and her son-in-law Gordon. Betty was the loving and encouraging mother to Donald and Meredith and kind and loving mother-in-law to Lisa and Todd. She was an attentive, creative and loving grandma to Robyn and her husband Jeff, Justin, Linley and former partner Steve, Lo and partner Jay, and Cedar, and to step grand-children Julian, Sophia and Georgia. Betty was constantly delighted by her great -grandchildren Hailey, Colton, Bethany and Charlie and always gave them her love and attention. Throughout her long and happy life Betty practiced her faith and humanity through her curiosity, creativity, positive outlook, naturally caring nature, her professional work as a teacher, her consistent volunteer service and participation in many community and faith based organisations, her treatment of people of all backgrounds and circumstances with warmth and respect, and her ability to find a corny joke for every situation. Our sincere thanks to the wonderful carers and staff at Macpherson Smith, and all the friends and family who kept in touch with Betty through visits, calls and letters in her later years, bringing her much joy.

STURROCK, ALYS

We, the Sturrock family, extend our sincere thanks to everyone for their love and support following the passing of our dear Mum, Nan and 'Tough Old Nan', Alys.

The cards, messages, phone calls, floral tributes and food have been very much appreciated. Thank you for them all. Thank you to all who were able to attend Alys's farewell and celebration of life service, as well as those who wished they could have been there.

Our sincere thanks as well to Pastor John for your pastoral care for Alys over the years and for your moving farewell service to her. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr Franklin and all your staff for your very kind care of Alys for the many years she was your client.

As well, a very big thank you to all the very caring staff at Yarriambiack Lodge for all your care for Alys for the nearly 3 years it was her home. She loved it there once she finally made the move.

As always, Michael and John Gardiner made the funeral process much easier for us by your professionalism and caring. Thank you both for everything.

To the Lutheran church ladies (and men?), thank you so much for your catering after the funeral service.

As well, thank you to anyone else that provided food for the hungry crowd.

Our thanks again, most sincerely.

Daryl, Janet, Graeme, Neil, Peter and families.
