Working independently together: Cove Beauty Collective celebrates first year
Cove Beauty Collective works independently together.
Jasmine Martin, Bec Pizzoni, Kirsty McClelland and Zarah King decided to band together as they stepped out as beauty therapists in early 2023.
Leaving the traditional salon, the quartet each launched their own business, which they operate in partnership with one another under the name Cove Beauty Collective.
"Cove Beauty Collective is a collective of beauty therapists. We're all sole traders who work for ourselves but together under one roof," Ms McClelland said.
"We all used to work together at our previous employment; we all sort of had the idea of going out on our own at some point in our careers.
"I started Cove Beauty Collective to have us all work together.
"I wanted to work for myself, but not by myself."
Ms McClelland said the freedom to set their own hours is a great benefit of working as a collective instead of in a traditional salon.
"We work when we want, and we're not putting anybody else by out by doing that," she said.
The group said they could work flexibly and freely to fit their clients' needs.
Without a boss to report to, the group finds it comfortable.
"It makes it easy, and it makes it more enjoyable," Ms McClelland said.
Ms Martin also noted the creative freedom it afforded them.
"If we want to bring in new treatments, we can; we don't have to ask or convince somebody else to do that," she said.
Having first opened the doors to their Darlot Street home on February 19, 2023, the group is looking back on its first year of operating and celebrating its successes.
"We're like 'Has it been a year?' It's gone really quick," Ms Martin said.
"I feel like we've achieved so much in that year," Ms McClelland added.
Looking ahead, the group hopes to continue to grow the Cove Beauty Collective brand.
"We just want to be as successful as we can be," Ms Martin said.
"We want our name to be one of the strongest names in town."
The group also said a goal for the future is to grow the collective and have more professionals operating under their name.
