Celebrity chef Tim Bone has declared a delectable lentil lasagne, cooked by Nhill's Wendy Bywaters, as the winner of the West Wimmera Health Service cooking competition.

Putting the region's produce into the spotlight, the lasagne utilised lentils, Mount Zero pink lake salt, olives and olive oil, relish and a Mallee Moment tomato sauce.

Fellow competitor Vanessa Triana of Banyena also cooked up a storm, creating a Colombian dish which included beef mince, brown lentils, saba banana and homemade guacamole served with rice.

Competition organiser and health promotion officer Jake Wiffen said the day was a fun-filled family event which was well supported.

The event also saw Mr Bone's culinary skills put on display during a masterclass.

Comprising a Moroccan lentil and chorizo egg bake served with a baguette, as well as a Peking duck toastie, Mr Bone's fare was a hit that left everyone’s tastebuds in a frenzy.
