Wimmera Mallee footballers well represented in GWV Rebels V/Line Cup squads

Eleven players from the region have been selected for the carnival.

Wimmera Mallee

The Wimmera Mallee region has had 11 footballers selected in the GWV Rebels' squads for the upcoming V/Line Cup in Ballarat from Monday, September 23 to Wednesday, September 25.

Scarlett Abbott (Horsham Demons), Lara Purchase (Nhill, Horsham Demons), and Abbey Weidemann (Horsham Demons) have been selected in the girl's 26-player squad.

There were seven boys from the region named in the squad of 46.

Riley Downer (Rupanyup), Oakley Farr (Horsham Demons), William Hobbs (Horsham Demons), Hudson Hobbs (North Ballarat, formerly of Horsham Demons), Luke Miller (Horsham Saints), Hayden Polack (Warrack Eagles) and Lenny Weir (Southern Mallee).

Bodey Wilde (Horsham Saints) was one of four emergencies.

Over 600 of country Victoria's best under-15 footballers will participate in the 75th edition of the annual carnival, which will be held in Ballarat for the first time.

The carnival consists of two boys and one girls division, with teams playing two matches per day.

Teams from Bendigo Pioneers, Geelong Falcons, Gippsland Power, Goulburn Murray Bushrangers, North East Border Bushrangers, and South East Stingrays will compete alongside the Rebels.

The V/Line Cup is seen as the first step in the talent pathway, with staff from talent league clubs on the lookout for the next young stars.
