Wide and open Beulah
More than 500 people turned out across two days for Beulah’s Wide Open Spaces festival, with music, markets and a fishing competition bringing the community together for what organisers described as a standout weekend.
Beulah Progress Association committee member Heather Sherwell said she was thrilled with how the event unfolded.
“It was a wonderful weekend,” she said.
“It was fantastic to see all the community together and all of the musicians didn’t disappoint.”
Ms Sherwell estimated the festival attracted between 300 and 400 people on Saturday, with another 100 to 200 attending on Sunday.
“Over the two days, yeah, definitely more than 500 people attended,” she said.
Visitors travelled from across the region and beyond, with people coming from Bendigo, Mildura and South Australia to join the event.
The music program featured a mix of local talent and visiting performers.
Ms Sherwell said the festival opened with a local open mic session, followed by the festival program, which delivered a blend of homegrown acts and headline artists from outside the district.
“We had a mix of a few local acts, and then you’ve got the headliners, the Pierce Brothers, who are actually from Melbourne,” she said.
Festivalgoers also enjoyed a busy market, with Ms Sherwell confirming 20 stalls were part of the event.
The fishing competition also added flavour to the weekend atmosphere, with Beulah locals Isla Garlick winning the junior competition and Butch Morris taking out the seniors.
Ms Sherwell said the Pierce Brothers were a major highlight of the festival.
“I would have to say the Pierce Brothers,” she said.
“They got everybody up and dancing. They were just amazing people and Aussie acts.”
She said the committee had already received strong feedback from those who attended.
“We’ve had a few messages from people just reiterating how much fun they had and how great the event was,” she said.
“We’ve had a few positive reviews so far.”
Ms Sherwell thanked volunteers, sponsors, stallholders and the wider community for helping make the festival a success.
“It was really wonderful to see everybody coming together,” she said.
“Thank you to everybody for wanting to come and be a part of it.”
