Who are our local heroes?

Do you know someone who's made significant contributions to the community and/or achieved to a high level in their chosen endeavours?

Organiser of the annual Warracknabeal and district Australia Day event, the local Rotary club,
is looking forward to receiving nominations for the annual community awards of Warracknabeal Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year and Young Achiever of the Year.

These awards will be presented on January 26, 2025 at the Australia Day free community morning at Warracknabeal Racecourse.

It’s a great opportunity to thank and recognise locals who've made significant contributions to the community.

Since 2012, when the Rotary Club started to host the event, there have been many outstanding

Within this timespan, Leo Casey, Peter Martin and Ian Penny have also all been named as Yarriambiack Citizen of the Year.

It’s an amazing list of people.

So who's missing?

Can you help?

It takes a little time to put together a nomination, but it’s certainly worth it.

There are so many worthy people in the community but nomination response has been slow.

Rotary club members are hoping for some extra help.

Nomination forms are in many shops and businesses in Warracknabeal and Brim and in the
town library, and digital forms are on the Rotary and schools’ social media pages.

You can also contact Rotarians John Aitken (0418 103 697) or Wendy Hewitt (0427 332 193).

But time is tight now as nominations will close next Wednesday, December 11.

For the actual event on Australia Day, the Rotary club has secured a great line- up of local entertainers and is confident the well-known past resident invited to be the guest speaker will be a popular choice.

More details will announced in next week’s Warracknabeal Herald.
