Warriors eye third straight
Stawell has kicked off their season well, and goes into the clash against Horsham this week two from two.
The Demons haven't been quite as successful, having recorded one loss and one win after their couple of matches in the Wimmera Football Netball League 2026 season.
The Jake Short-led side got up against Minyip Murtoa in the opening round of the season, 12.14 (86) to 12.12 (84), before being defeated by the Horsham Saints in the Anzac Day blockbuster 5.2 (32) to 16.13 (109).
Stawell has had a couple of closer wins, getting up over Ararat in the first week by five points - 11.20 86 to 12.9 81, before a bigger victory against the Eagles on April 18 - 14.15 99 to 12.3 75.
Co-coach of Stawell, Perry Meka, was doing their analysis on the opposition as he chatted with Wimmera Mallee News, and acknowledged the opposition for this week was a side full of youngsters.
After their interrupted start to the year, where Meka said they had come up against tough opponents in a couple of good matches, he said it's now a matter of getting back into it.
"We've got a big block coming up over the next six weeks, so we will get back into it this Saturday and go from there," Meka said.
"We'll be going into the match with the attitude it doesn't matter who we play, in particular the first round, because we don't know what the opposition is like, nor do we have a good read on them, so it's more about how we play.
"We understand Horsham is a side that is young, but because of our netball courts, we are playing a lot of away games early, so we are on their ground, it's a challenge for us, and that is the way we are accepting it."
Meka said the coaches have been pleased with how well their new recruits have fitted into the side, and are looking forward to seeing how they continue to bond and develop with more game time this week, and into the future.
"The recruits we have got have led really well, and we want that to continue, and the more we can actually play together, the more we will gel together," he said.
