The official opening of the new Warracknabeal Education Precinct on September 8 was the catalyst for a group of former teachers to organise a reunion.
The Golden "Oldies" Teachers’ Reunion involved teachers who taught at Warracknabeal Primary School from 1965 to 2015.
After much research, over 80 former teachers were contacted, of whom 55 attended.
Many former teachers returned for the official opening, travelling from as far away as Adelaide, Melbourne, Gippsland, Central Victoria, as well as from Warracknabeal and nearby towns.
Later in the day, visitors took the opportunity to explore the Education Precinct.
They were very impressed, noting the vast differences in the grounds, state-of-the-art buildings and facilities compared with their time teaching in Warracknabeal.
In the evening, a reunion dinner was held at The Creekside Hotel.
Former teacher and principal David Baxter welcomed guests on behalf of the reunion committee.
Past and present teachers, with a combined service of almost 500 years of teaching at Warracknabeal Primary School, enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect with former colleagues, reminisce and share stories.
A focal point of the evening were the memory boards which featured photographs and memorabilia.
These displays contributed to more stories, fond memories and much laughter.
Also displayed were apologies from teachers unable to attend, many recalling their time at Warracknabeal Primary School with much fondness and happy memories.
An enjoyable evening was had by all who attended, and over the weekend, many visitors also renewed old acquaintances in the town and visited local attractions in the area.
