WARRACKNABEAL has bounced back onto Dimboola & District Tennis Association’s winners list in fine style with a commanding win over Antwerp at Anzac Park on Saturday.
The penultimate round of the season saw the ladder leader extend its place at the top of the table with a dominant display and a clean sweep of points.
Top spot was on the line for both teams with just two and a half points separating the teams before the clash but with just one round remaining in the home and away season, Warrack will finish the season as minor premier.
Saturday’s round of matches saw a thriller between Brim and Rainbow that highlighted the round, while Hopetoun was forced to forfeit its clash against Jeparit.
Dimboola strenghtened its position as the highest placed team outside the top four when they proved too strong for Arkona with a clean sweep of points.
Warrack dominated its clash against Antwerp dropping just three sets for the day winning the mixed doubles section six sets, 42 games to 11 games.
In the mens section, Warrack claimed six sets, 54 games to three sets 32 games as the ladies completed a clean sweep of sets winnings nine sets, 63 games to 18 games.
The overall results saw Warrack win 21 sets, 159 games to three sets, 61 games.
The match of the day took place on the Brim courts when the battle between the third and fourth placed teams produced a thrilling finish.
Playing four men and four ladies, just four games separated the teams at day’s end after Brim won the mixed doubles section two sets, 22 games to two sets, 19 games, winning the final set 7-1 to clinch the opening point.
The mens and ladies sections saw contrasting results with the Brim men not dropping a set, while the Rainbow ladies followed suit with a clean sweep of wins.
Brim won the mens section six sets, 42 games to 24 games, while the Rainbow ladies won their section six sets, 42 games to 17 games.
The final result saw the teams split two and half points each with Rainbow finishing four games in front 85-81.
Dimboola’s win over Arkona was built on a tense mixed doubles win which saw Dimboola claim the opening point, three sets, 28 games to two sets, 26 games.
Playing six men and four ladies, Dimboola dominated the mens section to claim the point eight sets, 58 games to one set, 31 games.
In the ladies section, another tense battle took place which saw Dimboola prevail three sets, 35 games to three sets, 33 games.
The overall result saw Dimboola win 14 sets, 121 games to six sets, 90 games.
This weekend will see the final round of the season before finals begin on March 4.
