Warracknabeal and District Band will now be giving local music lovers a bigger bang for their buck, thanks to the generosity of its patrons.
Over the last two years, the band has given members of the public an opportunity to show their support for the band, by becoming a patron and donating by purchasing tickets to their events, with the money used to improve, overall, their ability to entertain.
Recently, musical director Jason Wright was approached with an offer to purchase a set of Timpani at a reduced price, which were then sold at the reduced price to Warracknabeal and District Band.
As this was an item that was often spoken about, with wishful thoughts by members, and with the money available from the Patrons’ tickets, the offer was accepted without much discussion needed.
An opportunity to hear these booming additions to the band is coming up on July 23, for a “Pleasant Sunday Afternoon” at Brim Memorial Hall.
With a small donation to enter, the concert will begin at 2pm and will be followed by an afternoon tea, thanks to the Brim community.
Warracknabeal residents will have their opportunity on August 20 at the Warracknabeal Town Hall, which will also include entertainment from the Horsham City Pipe Band.
The Pipe Band, formed in 1923, is one of only few remaining in the area and, after a successful competition season pre-Covid, is now growing in numbers again and giving musicians interested in pipe music a chance at interstate and international travel.
This concert will begin at 2pm, and be catered for by the Town Hall Committee, with donations at the door distributed to both organisations.
The program for both concerts will feature a selection of entertaining, well-known music, such as Disney favourites, “We Are The World” and “Hallelujah”.
The band hopes to see a good public turnout at these performances, and that it encourages younger members of the community to pursue a musical future.
It will also be a great opportunity for any potential musicians to hear various instruments, and talk to the players about being in the band.
