Volleyball Victoria junior country championships hit off in Horsham

The 2024 Volleyball Victoria junior country championships opened in Horsham on Thursday, September 26, as two home-town teams opened the event.
Volleyball Horsham's under-19 boys faced Warrnambool in the opening match at the Horsham Basketball Stadium.
Coached by Jack Hannan, the home side was defeated in three sets, 16-25, 24-26, 14-25, in front of a vocal crowd.
In the under-19s girls match, Horsham, coached by David Berry, was narrowly defeated three sets to two by Mildura Academy 26-24, 23-25, 25-15, 19-25, 14-16.
Horsham will have six teams competing in the event, with girls and boys teams in the under-15 and 17 age groups alongside the 19s.
Matches begin at 8.30 each morning and with the last timeslots after 7pm.
Medal matches will be played on Sunday, September 29.
It is the first time in several years that the state's top talent has had the spotlight to itself, having played alongside the senior country championships.
