VICSWIM summer kidz program aimed at making water safety more accessible

Aquatics Recreation Victoria has launched it 2025 VICSWIM summer kidz program aimed at ensuring every child has an opportunity to learn how to swim, develop essential water safety skills, and build confidence around water.
The cost of the program in 2025 is $35 per week per child, plus an $8 booking fee.
"VICSWIM is dedicated to making swimming accessible to all families, especially those from marginalised communities," said ARV CEO Kathy Parton.
The recently released Victorian drowning report shows an 8 per cent increase on the 10-year drowning rate, with 46 per cent of drownings occurring in summer.
The report also shared young people between the ages of 15-24 recorded the highest drowning rate and people from regional areas were 1.5 times more likely to drown than their metropolitan peers.
"By delivering low-cost, one-week intensive swimming lessons focused on water safety across Victoria-including rural and remote areas-we are ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn vital skills, regardless of their background," said Ms Parton.
By creating a positive and supportive learning environment, it is hoped VICSWIM acts as a catalyst for a lifelong enjoyment of aquatics.
The program will run from the Monday, January 6 to Friday, 24 January 2025 in over 150 locations statewide.
In the Wimmera, it will be held at Donald Swimming Pool, Dimboola Swimming Pool, Jeparit Swimming Pool, Nhill Aquatic Centre, Rainbow Outdoor Pool, Horsham Aquatic Centre, Edenhope Swimming Pool, Minyip, Murtoa Swimming pool, Rupanyup Swimming Pool and Warracknabeal Memorial Swimming Pool.
