Upsets set up last round decider
Swifts-Great Western and Halls Gap will play each other for the C grade minor premiership despite both teams suffering surprise losses in round 15 on Saturday, February 21.
At Sunnyside Recreation Reserve, Homers elected to bat against Halls Gap and scored 6/161 from their 40 overs.
Opener Tim Hopper retired not out with 50, while Barry Hopper had a run-a-ball 36 late in the innings.
For the Kookaburras, Luke Stevens finished with 2/20, and Cameron Gilmor had 1/14.
In reply, Halls Gap were then bowled out for 85 in the 27th over, led by 42 from Charlie McIntosh and 13 from Luke Stevens.
Tim Hopper continued his strong game, taking 3/20 with the ball, while Henry Walsgott (1/2) and Finn Arnel (1/3).
At Great Western Recreation Reserve, Swifts-Great Western elected to bowl against Laharum, who scored 123 before being bowled out in the 37th over.
Ben Peucker led the Demons with 62, while Brodie Foster scored 19.
For the home side, Aaron Greenough (2/7), Nicholas McCartney (2/12) and Tim Robinson (2/16) each took two wickets.
Despite 50 from Alexander Bonner, the Combine fell short by 30 runs, bowled out for 93, with Josh McCartney (17) offering some late-order assistance.
Connor Cowan (4/17) and Archie Watt (2/12) tore through the top and middle order for Laharum, before Tim Hofmaier secured the innings with two wickets (2/1) in his solitary over.
Ben Peucker also had an impressive day behind the stumps, taking three catches and a stumping.
At Dimboola Recreation Reserve, Quantong elected to bat against the Blackheath Dimboola bowling attack.
Openers Nicholas Caris (33) and Scott Ezard were among the top scorers as Quantong finished 7/133 from their 40 overs.
For the Bulls, Albert Schorback (2/9) and Lenny Clark (2/15), while captain Malcolm Barry had an economical 1/7 from his six overs.
In reply, Albert Schorback hit 73 not out from 68 balls to lead the team to 6/136 and the victory, well supported by 18 from Lenny Clark.
Rob Caris led Quantong with 2/26, while Stuart Jose claimed 1/15.
At Gordon Street Recreation Reserve, Rhymney Moyston recorded a decisive victory over the Tigers.
Electing to bat, the Tigers were bowled out for just 45, with openers Damon Brennan (14) and Gagan Sidhu (13) scoring most of the runs before the side’s 10 wickets fell for just 14 runs.
Daniel Taylor led Rhymney Moyston with 3/3, while Solmon Riddell (2/2) and Daniel Walker (2/7) both claimed two wickets.
Rhymney Moyston then comfortably chased down 46, with openers Daniel Taylor (24) and David Padley (11) each retiring out.
At Coughlin Park, the Horsham Saints elected to bat against Natimuk and totalled 117 before being bowled out in the 33rd over.
Ben Sawyer smashed 10 boundaries to score 57 from 44 balls, while Kingsley Dalgeish finished with 30 not out.
Sam Peachey (3/16) and Jett Munn (3/20) led Natimuk with the ball.
Kyal Murray then led the visitors to the win, retiring 50 not out from 37 balls, while Tyler Coutts scored 22, as Natimuk reached 6/118 in the 27th over.
Jackson Tuohey led the Saints with 2/0, while Lulu Puthayath Kuriakose had 1/9.
