Upbeat youth an encouraging sign for the future

There's something infectious about enthusiasm, especially from the younger generation.

There's something infectious about enthusiasm, especially from the younger generation.

Yes, I'm a Gen Y elder millennial (although I haven't received my membership card) with what I hope are plenty of years ahead of me.

But spending the week covering the various country week cricket tournaments gave me hope.

The same brush can often tar the youth as apathetic, lukewarm bodies that eat, sleep and love the internet.

But, given the right environment, they come out of their shells.

While watching far too many games this week, you could hear the encouragement. It was contagious.

Good ball. Get around your mate.

Bad ball? Get around your mate more.

This was from 9.30am all the way to 4.30pm. For five days.

It's a lesson for us adults. When the chips are down, get around your mate and let them know you are there.
