Uni to slash jobs across its network
Federation University is to make 163 positions redundant.
However, it would not comment on potential job losses at the Wimmera campus as part of the cost-cutting exercise to save $20 million in order to return the uni to an operating surplus.
A spokesperson told The Horsham Times on Wednesday the university “remains committed to the Wimmera region and for improving access to post-secondary education”.
They said a recent expansion of courses and a new engineering learning space underlined its commitment to the Horsham campus.
“Federation University will continue to advocate for a policy framework that takes into account the unique challenges faced by regional universities,” they said.
Federation University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Duncan Bentley, said the job losses were regrettable but necessary: “Making these decisions now means we can ensure we can continue to work with our communities across Ballarat, Berwick, Gippsland, and the Wimmera," he said.
