U3A volunteers taking pride in garden tidy-up

The University of Third Age’s "Garden Group" has taken over responsibility for beautifying the eastern garden at the old railway station.
The group will plant and maintain the gardens adjacent to the platform.
The group comprises 15 U3A members, with Shirley Baker, Trish Deleeuw and Kaye Jones as prominent representatives.
A few individuals were only engaged in brainstorming for the cleaning effort, as they could not contribute physically.
Two group members, Shirley Baker and Kath Carlson, and their husbands, Barry Laird and Geoff Carlson, removed the bushes last month.
"We cleaned the garden and removed all the stuff," Ms Baker said. "My three-year-old grandson, Charlie Page-Faux, was also there when we cleaned.
"We will also manage the shoots of the old bushes, which we removed before because they were not native plants.
"We need to place new, fresh soil, and once it's settled, we will plant the plants after consulting with the department."
Horsham Urban Landcare is contributing $1500 to U3A to assist with the cost of the garden makeover project.
