U3A tutors rewarded as group powers on

Horsham University of the Third Age has a new president - and three new life members who have been pivotal to the group's success.
Technology tutor Robin Ellis chaired the annual meeting which elected June Liddy to head the 240-member group. Ms Liddy replaces Rick Walker.
Bob McIlvena is vice-president, Margery Pannan is secretary and Judy Dillon, treasurer.
Other committee members are Kaye Jones, Joyce Lane, Mike Coffey, Bill Goodwin, Rick Walker and Carol Drummond.
Mr Walker said in his final president's message that U3A was a wonderful collection of friends and filled a necessary spot in many people's lives.
"It's not just a club people join and go to once a month," he said.
"We owe it to our friends to bring them along to U3A so they can see for themselves how worthwhile it is."
U3A sessions include local history, table tennis, china painting, singing for fun, canasta, mah jong, patchwork, technology, German and French conversation, film classics, bridge, gentle exercises, scrabble and gardening.
Newly appointed life members are oil painting tutor Edith Whyatt, watercolour, acrylic and pastel tutor Marie Anson and Heather Crosthwaite, who tutors a cryptic crosswords group.
Horsham U3A is now preparing to take part in the 2023 Horsham and District Community Groups 2023 Expo.
The expo will be held at the Horsham Town Hall on October 4, coinciding with 2023 Seniors Week.
A meeting of the estimated 47-plus participating community groups will take place on July 7.
