Two bins enough in Haven
Residents of Haven who are not already part of the four-bin municipal waste program will not be forced to change.
When a state government recycling initiative required Horsham Rural City Council to roll out additional bins for householders in April 2023, parts of Haven were included in the new service.
Occupants of a non-affected area – bounded by Reynolds, Grahams Bridge, Holes, Hunts and Hardinghams roads – were surveyed initially and then a second time in greater depth.
In the latter, more detailed survey, 86 per cent of respondents (or 54 individuals) said they did not want to receive two more bins.
Taking this into consideration, councillors voted on January 28 to maintain the status quo.
Cr Rebecca Sluggett said it was clear that people contacted during community engagement in Haven "did not wish for the four-bin system to be extended in the area in question".
"I trust that the community will work with us by continuing to use other of food and organic disposal, such as their chickens and compost, and to take suitable glass to the container deposit scheme sites or other areas suitable to help minimise the impacts to landfill," Cr Sluggett said.
