What began as a throwaway comment by Mental Health Peer Support worker Justin Knorpp during a conversation with Warracknabeal Rotary about his Active Farmer's program, has resulted in the donation of a trailer to assist with transporting exercise equipment for the program.
"What I really need is a trailer so I could take my exercise equipment to venues outside Warracknabeal, so if Rotary wanted to contribute something to that it would be great," he cheekily told members.
Rotary club President John Tonkin said the club was happy to support Mr Knorpp, particularly as he runs the program in his spare time in support of farmers and their wellbeing as an important community service.
"So, a trailer was sourced, painted with Knorppy's name and his program's logo, and presented to Justin this week," Mr Tonkin said.
"Justin is passionate about providing community support in the mental health area. His Active Farmer's program has been running for 2.5 years and, in his words, aims to build men's mental and physical wellbeing and to promote social connection.
"It's important that we get blokes to connect with each other as physical involvement in a social setting promotes mental wellbeing.
"Service clubs have an ongoing interest in supporting the health and wellbeing of their communities and Knorppy runs this important local program in support of farmers and their physical and mental health.
"The fact that he runs the program as a personal contribution in his own time, makes community support even more deserved."
The Active Farmers organisation also offers scholarships to people who don't have a Group Fitness or Personal Trainer certificate.
