Apart from it being an unusually mild last day of summer, last Tuesday was also a different one for the Dimboola Croquet Club with the club holding its first tournament for two years due to the combined effects of Covid and bad weather.
Nine visitors - three from Kalimna Park and six from Horsham - and a varying fleet of seven locals took to the courts for four rounds of games, with players paired differently each round with the aim of making for an even competition.
The competition certainly proved to be even.
The two top Wimmera players, Ken Bald from Kalimna Park and Gary Devlin of Horsham, both ended up on a total of 27 hoops.
This proved to be not quite enough as there were four players who finished on 29 hoops.
Dawn Scott was declared the winner of the day, as she was the only player to win all four games.
Robyn Devlin and Bev Keogh of Horsham, along with Cathy Charlesworth of Dimboola, were the joint runners-up.
To add to her day, Bev Keogh also won the raffle.
