Horsham’s Clean Up Australia Day team is growing quickly - and organisers are eager to recruit more community-spirited volunteers to help spruce up the eight-times Victorian Tidy Town winner.
River banks and carparks are among the Horsham hotspots to be targeted in this year’s campaign, with plenty more to be added to the list.
Tidy Towns chairman David Eltringham said he was delighted to see the national effort resume after a two-year hiatus through Covid, and hoped to see a new groundswell of helpers on Sunday, March 5.
"The Tidy Town Committee will clean up 15 spots around the town," he said.
"We'll be cleaning the roads leading to the town, all car parks, under the bridges and around the old railway station.
"Gardening around the old railway station after the clean up is also on our future list."
Mr Eltringham wants to hear from anyone who can identify litter or rubbish eyesores around Horsham so those sites can be included in the clean-up program.
Volunteers will assemble at the Model Railway Carpark, at the river end of Firebrace Street at 9.30am for the 3-4 hour effort.
Teams will be allotted hotspot/rubbish task areas after signing in for registration and insurance purposes. Registrations can also be made online at https://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au
Limited protective equipment will be issued, so volunteers are encouraged to bring a hat and water bottle. A large hopper is expected to be placed on site by Horsham Rural city Council for collection and disposal.
