The past few months has seen a dramatic increase in incidence of theft in Warracknabeal, with the latest victims, last week, being our local children.

1st Warracknabeal Girl Guides unit leader Kirsty Holland said they are a small community group which relies on fundraising and donations to provide the non-formal educational program for all ages.

“We had a fire pit, a cooking drum on legs and a pile of pre-cut firewood taken,” she said.

“The loss of these means our Guides are unable to have a campfire and do camp cooking, which makes achieving their badges challenging.

“We will also need to use our fundraising money to replace these things, and that puts other things on our wish list on the back burner.”

The 12 members of 1st Warracknabeal Girl Guides Unit meet every Monday afternoon during school term, to take part in a variety of fun activities that focus on self-development and confidence in the areas of practical skills, physical development and relationships with people, appropriate to their individual age and interests.

Warracknabeal Police are looking into the theft of the firepit, camp oven and firewood, which is believed to have occurred between October 10 and October 16, and are continuing their investigations into the missing plants and garden ornaments, and the burglary and vandalism which occurred at the Warracknabeal Caravan Park earlier this month

Anyone with information regarding the thefts should speak to officers to Warracknabeal Police Station on (03) 5396 2100.

Alternatively, reports can be made to Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000, or submitted as a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
