The boy from Warracknabeal met the tea towel from Warracknabeal
William McNicol comes from a small village about an hour’s drive from Glasgow, Scotland and is to say the least, a huge fan of Nick Cave.
He has been following him on his tours all over the world for the last few years.
When William was visiting Sydney last August, he decided he would like to visit the birthplace of Nick Cave.
He travelled by train, bus and foot to Warracknabeal arriving on Monday August 12.
He visited the Information Center, observing the information and souvenirs dedicated to Nick Cave and purchased for himself a tea towel and a Nick Cave T-Shirt as momentos.
William spent a few nights on the creek in his single swag and happily trekked about the town, sighting the house where Nick lived Cave for a short time and then he also ventured to a couple of nearby towns' tourist attractions.
After befriending some locals, he set off back to Sydney and home to Scotland.
William is retired and enjoys long treks and going to as many music gigs as he can possibly fit in.
Just a few weeks ago on November 8, William was heading off to Nick Cave’s concert “The Wild God Tour – UK and Europe” in Cardiff, UK, and as he headed out of his house, he grabbed the used tea towel from Warracknabeal.
Afterwards William sent a message saying, “The boy from Warracknabeal met the tea towel from Warracknabeal. Both have come a long way.”
He said Nick spotted him waving the tea towel about in the audience and was very happy to sign it at the end of the gig.
Bemused he thought “Who brings a tea towel to a gig! Can’t use it now!”
William is returning to Warracknabeal early 2025 to bring his wife and son to also experience the town and hopes to explore more of the tourist attractions in the area.
He said he particularly wants to visit the Stick Shed in Murtoa.
