Our junior competition has entered the finals with teams vying for a grand final position.
Teams fought it out for either direct entry into the Grand Final or the opportunity to try again in the Preliminary Final this week.
Under 12 Boys
Katz were leading at half time, but Cubs fought back to take the victory in a close game winning 47-41.
Top goal scorers - Cubs: Toby Arnel, Katz: Campbell Mansfield.
Cubs will have a week of rest, qualifying straight through to the Grand Final, while Katz will play the Preliminary Final against Olympics.
In an unexpected upset in the elimination final, first-time coaches Macie Nitschke and Lucy Holland will take their Olympics to the Preliminary Final after defeating a depleted Slabs 28-13.
Top goal scorers - Olympics: Lachie Clyne and Michael Wright, Slabs: Isaac Credlin.
Under 12 Girls
Cubs are through to the Grand Final after a convincing win against Katz 38-10 after coach Stacey Holland’s patience talking her girls through the game.
Top goal scorer - Olivia Moore, Katz: Makenzie Roche.
Katz will get another opportunity for a Grand Final position playing against Olympics this week.
Slabs are unfortunately knocked out of the finals after being defeated by Olympics in a hard fought, low scoring game. Olympics took the victory 15-10.
Top goal scorers - Olympics: Ivy Macgregor and Ayla Gunn, Slabs: Mallory Doidge and Arielle Malcolm.
Under 15 Boys
Olympics remain undefeated playing straight through to the Grand Final, winning 26 – 22 against a determined Slabs.
Top goal scorer - Olympics: Charlie Martin, Slabs: Samuel Williamson and Riley Templeton.
In another close game, Cubs will face Slabs this week in the Preliminary Final after defeating Katz 38-35. Both teams scored equal goals in the second half after a three-point lead to Cubs at half time, gaining them the victory.
Top goal scorer - Cubs: Karter Nitschke, Katz: Riley Watson and Oscar Allott.
Under 15 Girls
Kellie Funcke’s Katz girls had to fight hard for their victory in a tight game with the final siren bringing much relief on the one-point win against Cubs, 16-15.
Goals did not come easy for Lucy Holland, Eedie Rowe or Maya Funke, relying on their defence against Cubs’ goal scorers Milla Adams and Georgia Evans.
Cubs coach Brooke Holland was quick to mention her chosen footwear was simply because of the heat, but the thongs didn’t bring the expected luck.
Brooke and her girls will get another chance for a Grand Final spot against Slabs this week.
Slabs took a convincing win against a depleted Olympics 57-24.
Top goal scorers - Slabs: Lena Marshman, Olympics: Leah Hallam.
Under 21 Boys
What was a reasonably close game at halftime saw Olympics fight hard in the second half to take the win from Katz 57-42.
Due to technical issues other statistics are not known for the game.
Olympics have secured a spot in the Grand Final and Katz will get a second chance against Slabs in the prelim final
Unfortunately, due to availability, the Cubs had to forfeit their game and bow out of the finals.
Under 21 Girls
Cubs and Slabs showed why they held the tops ladder positions, with Cubs taking the final victory in a close game 38-34.
Top goal scorers - Cubs: Lauren Clyne, Slabs: Ava Koschitzke
Slabs will get a second chance, facing Olympics in the Preliminary Final.
Katz do not qualify for finals as a Wildcat side, playing a scratch match against Olympics on Friday and forfeiting their finals position.
Preliminary Finals will be played on both courts at the same time this week so come down and catch all the action.
