Team performance takes Horsham Demons to 2024 under 17s premiership
Horsham Demons beat Horsham Saints in Dimboola.
The Horsham Demons under 17 football side has claimed the 2024 WFNL premiership.
The Demons beat the Horsham Saints 9.4 (59) - 6.5 (41) in the grand final at Dimboola on Saturday, September 21.
Demons coach Damian Bunworth said it was good to see a good match up in the decider.
"They're always good games against the Saints," he said.
"Two good quality teams full of potential ... they're always good battles."
The Saints were kept scoreless in the opening quarter while the Demons built a 19-point lead.
While the Horsham Saints showed plenty of fight to try and get back into the match, the Demons advantage held strong until the side was crowned.
But, after the game Bunworth was not thinking about the competitive glory.
"It's not always about premierships," he said.
"It's about trying to promote the kids, and getting the kids to learn and grow, and respect the game and respect the opponents."
And, Bunworth believes it was the strong team effort that earned his inside the advantage.
"The thing that gave us the edge was probably the 22 contributors," he said.
"They ran the four quarters out, everyone played their role and we were just that little bit better for that little bit longer.
Dezi Carter's strong performance in Demons colours earned him the best on ground.
"Dezi's amazing, he's come back this year after a few years off and to come and fit back in like he has is amazing," Bunworth said.
"It just shows the ability of the kid, hopefully he continues to have a bright future
