Talking their way to the final
Evie Hendy and Rebecca Hobbs from Kaniva College have represented their school and the wider Wimmera in the state final of the Junior Legacy Public Speaking competition.
The pair competed against nine other students from across Victoria, demonstrating their public speaking skills at the event in Ballarat last Wednesday.
The judges commended the calibre of the competition and the diverse range of topics covered by the speakers.
Evie's five-minute presentation was on the "Untold Story of 9/11" while Rebecca's was titled "The Miracle Baby".
The event was won by Shannon Mhaso from Monivae College and the runner-up was Daisy Bayona from Portland Secondary College.
The competition is designed to foster public speaking skills in students aged 12 to 14 and aims to build confidence, communication and leadership qualities among youngsters, setting them up for future success.
Chair of the Wimmera Legacy Junior Public Speaking Committee Neil Popple thanked the girls for representing Wimmera Legacy and thanked June Liddy for her assistance.
Mr Popple said it was important youngsters could learn to articulate a message.
Wimmera Legacy is already preparing for next year's competition, starting in October.
The organisation is calling for interested students from across the region to get involved.
