Swifts meet Bombers in crucial matchup
The Swifts will look to solidify their place in the top five of A Grade netball when they meet Noradjuha Quantong in round 10 of the Horsham District Football Netball League.
The Swifts will travel to Quantong with confidence as they enter the contest with a three-game win streak, including a 50-35 defeat of Kaniva Leeor in round nine.
Swifts are currently fourth on the ladder with a 6-2 record, however, just two wins separates first (Rupanyup) and sixth on the ladder, Noradjuha Quantong.
With the finals consisting of the top five teams at the end of the regular season, the result between the Swifts and Bombers could have eventual finals repercussions.
A win for Noradjuha Quantong on the weekend could see them rise to fourth and potentially push the Swifts out of the top five.
The Bombers also enter Saturday with a three-game win streak, fresh off a 57-39 win over Pimpinio.
Amy Kenny, coach of the Swifts, is feeling prepared ahead of Saturday’s clash.
“This week will be an opportunity to pick up where we finished Saturday and run with it, with particular focus on getting a solid start,” Kenny said.
“Noradjuha Quantong is a well-rounded team who will take some beating, but we are more than ready for the challenge.”
Kenny is pleased with how the team is progressing, identifying the defensive end as a focus area over the time off.
“We are still just running week by week, not getting ahead of ourselves,” Kenny said.
“The girls have been playing some really strong and resilient netball, which is a credit to them.
“Calm, mature heads within the team has been pivotal to the wins in recent weeks.
“We have been doing some more work on our defensive game down the court, and these last few weeks, keeping that fire burning through the bye weeks.
“We knew the break would stem the flow a bit, but the girls found themselves quickly again on the weekend.”
Including the game against the Bombers, the Swifts enter a tough stretch of games, with games against Rupanyup and Edenhope Apsley to follow.
Kenny has identified the importance of the Swifts sticking to their own game ahead over the next few weeks.
“Our team has a tendency to mirror their opponents when it comes to both the level of competition and intensity,” Kenny said.
“The next few weeks, we hope to see the girls draw on our game plans, lift again and work hard to be in a position to come away with the wins.”
In other round 10 A Grade netball games this week, league leaders Rupanyup will host Pimpinio, Natimuk go up against Harrow Balmoral, third-placed Edenhope Apsley take on fifth-placed Kalkee, and Taylors Lake host Laharum.
