Swifts’ Alex Close leads reserve grade goal race
The Horsham District Football Netball League’s reserve grade football goalkicking race is one to watch with just five goals separating the top three in the competition.
Swifts’ Alex Close leads reserve grade with 43 goals, followed by Noradjuha Quantong’s Dylan Bushby and Tory Chapple, who have 42 and 38 goals, respectively.
Close’s three goals against Natimuk on the weekend gave him the lead, but with the Swifts having a bye this Saturday, the race for most goals is likely to change week by week.
A dark horse to keep an eye on is Pimpinio’s Dylan Baker, who has kicked 20 goals in his last four games.
Like their senior side, Noradjuha Quantong has been the top side in 2025 reserves, and is currently undefeated.
Their main competition is the Swifts in second, who played out a tense 28-28 draw with the Bombers in round ten, and last Saturday defeated Natimuk 114-12.
Pimpinio and Kalkee are two other teams to keep an eye on in the reserves premiership race, with the Tigers posting a comprehensive 111-7 win over Edenhope Aspley in round 13, while Kalkee defeated fifth-placed Laharum 99-40.
Noradjuha Quantong’s dominance trickles down to the junior ranks, with both their under 17s and under 14s side in top position with five rounds to go.
Leading the way in the under 17s goalkicking is Marcus Mcintyre, who has kicked 30 majors for Kaniva Leeor-Edenhope Apsley.
In the under 14s, Rupanyup’s Max Borchard has been the standout goalkicker, kicking 40 goals in 11 games, 12 ahead of Laharum’s Joel Plazzer.
