Summer sport heats up as cricket season starts in perfect Saturday weather
The 2024/25 HCA kicked off for the regions cricketers.
Summers is getting ever closer for the Wimmera, and the warmer weather was welcomed by the regions weekend sports stars who enjoyed a warm day in the sun on Saturday, October 12, plying their favoured trade.
The regions cricketers joined the bowls and tennis players, who each got a start to their season a week prior.
Stepping up from B to A grade, Colts hosted Homers at Dudley Cornell, while the other team new to to the competition, Brim Kellalac Sheep Hills Cricket Club took on Bullants in the associations northernmost base.
Also on Saturday, Laharum took on the Horsham Tigers, Lubeck Murtoa took on Horsham Saints, and West Wimmera were spared from the heat, with the opening round bye.
For the region's tennis stars, Saturday was a chance to get on court properly, after wet weather saw many games to be abandoned the previous week.
Central Park took on Drung South while Kalkee hosted Horsham Lawn and St Michaels had the bye.
In the bowls, Goroke Edenhope hosted Horsham Golf, Nhill travelled to Horsham City, Dimboola took on Sunnyside and Coughlin Park met Kaniva.
