Stubborn bracket to meet its match, I'm determined to get this job done
A Mum's World, A stubborn bracket has Yolande Grosser in a bind.
I'm installing a new venetian blind in my bathroom, and I was going to say, "Don't tell my husband", but I might have to, because the project is kind of stalled.
I don't seem to have the screwdriver strength in my hand, arm or shoulder to remove the old brackets, and I just know he would get the job done in under two minutes with his electric screwdriver, muscles and good sense.
I could venture out to the shed to find his electric screwdriver, but should I?
I have maintained certain boundaries during this 33 year marriage. Rules about not knowing how to use the barbeque and a vast array of tools housed in the shed.
Basically, getting on the tools is the only other really big responsibility I won't tackle - plus all mechanical and building issues and being the Man of the House.
Oh, and the pool, that is his domain, but we share the lawn mowing. Of course, he has to fix the mower when it breaks down, I only know how to fill it with fuel and ride it.
Actually, he cuts down gum trees that are trying to kill me, fixes our cars when they stop, builds shade over sunny spots and feeds the lawn - so I'm pretty lost without him, and he's away harvesting at the moment.
The new 'faux wood' white venetian blind is probably a mistake, but I have people coming in a couple of weeks and those old slimline metallic blinds are just so dusty I'm embarrassed.
I have never got the knack of cleaning them without bending them out of shape, so nearly a decade after moving in, I've taken them down.
Now my naked window is just waiting for the old brackets to be removed, new ones fitted, and the lovely clean blind to be hung.
My sister Tammy would have finished it by now. She's excellent with any task.
My eldest daughter would have finished it by now too, her favourite present last year was the little pink tool kit her Dad gave her and she pulls things apart all the time.
Getting them back together is sometimes a bit tricky.
