Balloons were popping and the RSL hall was a riot of colour as President Bev Collins brought in the first meeting of the Dimboola Probus year in style - with a bang.
Members were asked to dress in their most outrageously colorful clothes, balloons and pins were handed out, and at the signal everyone let loose on the balloons with their pins.
"I want to start the year in a really bright way," said Bev Collins, when we had regained our hearing, "I hope it brings in a bright, sparkling year for us all!"
With the Probus Club AGM approaching next month, calls went out for immediate nominations for the new committee officers.
Bev reminded members that Committee positions could be shared.
"Two members can share a position, which means less time for each and divided responsibility. It really makes it a lot easier and much more fun."
There was also discussion on the question of raising membership fees. Judging by responses, the vote could swing either way.
Bev Collins also thanked Lois Gaulke for her hard work as Treasurer throughout the year. Jan Post, Bulletin Editor, thanked everybody for the jokes.
After morning tea, Joy Nelson shared impressions of her bus tour to Kangaroo Island.
"The island is totally pristine - 90 per cent untouched woodland." Joy said.
"The list of prohibited imports to the island is long. This protects the environment."
"Only 5,000 people live there, and we did a tour to look at the effects of the fires."
There are plants and trees on Kangaroo Island that exist nowhere else in the world, as does the purest strain of the Ligurian Bee - known for its gentle temperament, and highly protected.
Joy visited the Ligurian Bee Sanctuary, established in 1885.
"I had my first taste of honey ice cream, " said Joy.
"All in all the entire trip was jam packed with things to do. A lot of laughter and a lot of silliness went on.
"I would go back again. I loved it!"
