Stairs no match for CFA brigade
Horsham CFA members conquered the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb at the 28-storey Crown Metropol hotel on September 7.
A dozen hardy crew wore 25kg of turnout gear and breathing apparatus while negotiating the climb.
Climber Sarah Gorman said the event went well, with Horsham CFA raising $13,473 for the Peter Mac Cancer Foundation, Lifeline and the 000 Foundation.
The group's efforts saw it finish the event as the sixth top fundraising brigade.
"It's the highest amount the brigade has raised since members started taking part," Mrs Gorman said.
"Almost each climber raised over $2000. It's a really good effort and we're proud of it."
The brigade's fastest climber was Rigby Wynne, who completed the climb in five minutes and 47 seconds.
Tasmanian Fire Service's Devonport climber Marlon VonMoger completed the fastest climb, finishing in three minutes and 31 seconds.
In total this year's Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb raised $792,953 to support the fight against cancer, depression and suicide.
