Stage one of Nhill's Davis Park redevelopment to start in October
Construction of a tiered seating grandstand begins this year.
The first stage of the highly anticipated multi-stage redevelopment of Nhill's Davis Park is set to commence in the coming months, with the appointment of a contractor to undertake the construction works.
This initial stage will include constructing two AFL-compliant change rooms equipped with medical rooms, an administration office, storage space, and an undercover, tiered seating grandstand that will incorporate a media room and a timekeeper's room.
Construction is expected to begin in early October 2024, with completion anticipated by July 2025.
While meeting AFL Facilities Guidelines, the new facilities have been designed to accommodate other sports, such as hockey and cricket, enhancing the park's versatility.
Davis Park is already regarded as one of the premier playing surfaces in the Wimmera, and these enhancements are expected to boost spectator attendance and participation across various community sports.
Hindmarsh Shire Council mayor Brett Ireland, praised the collaboration that made this project possible, especially in the challenging economic climate.
"It is fantastic to now see the fruition of the hard work and many hours that the Nhill & District Sporting Club Committee and the Hindmarsh Shire Senior Management Team have put in to achieve a great outcome for the community," he said.
"It is with this collaboration that we have satisfied the funding requirements to deliver such a fantastic project in a difficult economic climate that we are now facing.
"The undercover seating and state of the art change rooms will greatly enhance the visitor and user experience."
Looking ahead, proposed future redevelopment stages include adding new netball change rooms, a second netball court, refurbished or new clubrooms, and enhanced power and lighting facilities.
Nhill and District Sporting Club president Rob Bell expressed the club's excitement for the upcoming construction.
"The Nhill and District Sporting Club is excited that stage one of the Davis Park redevelopment is due to start in coming months," he said.
"The Club would like to thank Hindmarsh Shire Council for their ongoing support to help this project go ahead."
The first stage of the Davis Park redevelopment was made possible through funding from the Federal Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program, the Victorian Government's Country Football Netball Program, Hindmarsh Shire Council, and the Nhill and District Sporting Club.
