Speed reduced in parts of Scott Street
A new speed limit has been posted for parts of Scott Street, Warracknabeal, reducing traffic to 40 kilometres an hour following a petition and requests from the community.
Yarriambiack Shire Council installed signage earlier this week with the limit now applying between the roundabout intersections with Lyle Street to the south, and Phillips Street to the north.
“Council have been approached by members of the community, enquiring when the speed limit will be reduced as a further safety mitigation measure," Yarriambiack CEO Tammy Smith said.
The safey issue dates back to 2022 after a petition, motioned by Warracknabeal Action Group's (WAG) Townscape committee, was submitted to council with 260 signatures, pleading for wombat crossings, in which council supported, applied for funding and successfully installed the crossings.
Following the installation of the wombat crossings early last year, there was an expectation within elements of the community that the speed limit on Scott Street would be reduced to 40km/h.
Council conducted further community consultation which indicated support for the speed limit reduction.
Flashing lights were installed this year at the wombat crossings and now has newly installed tactiles to assist vision impaired residents and visitors crossing the road.
