Shuttle action heats up
Round 4 of the Horsham Badminton Association’s Winter Teams Competition witnessed some strong smashes and long rallies on Monday, May 19, at the Horsham College gymnasium on Baillie Street.
A GRADE
- Slytherin V Ravenclaw
Ravenclaw clinched the victory by just one game.
Both teams ended up at 5-5 sets, but Ravenclaw won the match by 12 to 11 games.
Joel Beggs of Ravenclaw won two doubles for his team alongside Brad Haberger and Lakshdeep Chawla.
Sue Goudie also won two doubles with two teammates.
Caitlin Sawyer won two doubles for Slytherin, while Ben Sawyer won three sets for the team.
Ben defeated Luke Dunn in the singles set by 21-19 and 21-17.
RESULT: Ravenclaw defeated Slytherin by 5 sets to 5, 12 games to 11 and 449 to 428 overall points.
- Hogwarts V Gryffindor
Hogwarts outclasses Gryffindor by a difference of 6 sets.
Ishan Thomas of Hogwarts was the star of the night, winning all the sets he played in Round 4.
He won three doubles alongside Brendan Nitschke, Lachlan Walker and Avin James.
He also defeated Josh Dunn in a singles set by 13-21, 21-17 and 21-14.
Lachlan also won three doubles with teammates.
From Gryffindor, Paul + Rohan, and Amy + Jayden won the only two doubles for their team.
RESULT: Hogwarts defeated Gryffindor by 8 sets to 2, 18 games to 7 and 566 to 449 overall points.
B GRADE
- Cinderella V Rapunzel
Cinderella was too strong in Round 4.
Carolyn Beggs won three doubles sets for her team.
She won alongside Maju Mahon, Lahiru Nanayakkara, and Khushi Vakani.
She lost her singles set against Helen Francisco by 13-15 and 10-15.
Khushi Vakani also won three doubles sets for Cinderella.
For Rapunzel, Alana, and Minha Rahman won the doubles set for their team by 9-15 and 13-15.
RESULT: Cinderella defeated Rapunzel by 8 sets to 2, 16 games to 4 and 285 to 217 overall points.
- Tarzan V Moana
Tarzan stands tall against Moana on Monday night.
Harry Foster was the hero of the night for Tarzan, with three doubles and one single set in his bag.
Harry Foster defeated Whitney O'Sullivan in a singles set by 16-14 and 15-9.
Sam Nurse and Noime Powell also won two doubles sets each for their team.
Annabel Nuske and Jackson Hams won two doubles sets each for Moana.
RESULT: Tarzan defeated Moana by 7 sets to 4, 15 games to 9 and 307 to 297 points.
