Shooting a family affair for Porter's, after Chase medals at national champs
Chase Porter finished second in the A2 sub-junior division.
Despite being "not fussed" about the outcome, Pimpinio's Chase Porter can call himself one of the best junior shooters in the country.
Porter, 13, claimed a silver medal in the men's A2 sub-junior [under-15] at the Field and Game national championships in Clunes on Saturday, November 2 and 3.
"I'm just happy that I shot that well, but I'm proud [of how it went]," Porter said.
Porter shot 150 targets over the weekend, broken up into three rounds of 25 per day.
It was the second consecutive year that Porter has competed in the national championships after a fifth-place finish in 2023.
According to his mother, Shari, Porter has been around shooting "since he was able to walk" as his father, Simon, took him to his events.
Chase himself has only been competing for around three years.
"I grew up shooting [but] it just started as a bit of fun with the family," Porter said.
An element that still exists as his parents support him at events while his sister Mayci also competes.
Despite the championship's conclusion, it is not the end of the season for Porter.
"We've got two more [events] coming up, but it depends on how much you want to shoot. You could shoot every weekend if you wanted around here," he said.
Porter will compete at the junior championships in Natimuk on the second weekend of December.
