Shire to support 16 Days of Activism campaign
Hindmarsh Shire Council is showing its support to stop gender-based violence, as a part of the 16 Days of Activism campaign run by the United Nations.
The shire will be hosting a series of free community walks and barbeques in Nhill, Dimboola, Jeparit and Rainbow beginning on November 25.
Nhill will begin the campaign on November 25, with attendees set to start at Nhill Memorial Community Centre and finish at Nhill Lake.
Dimboola will host the event on November 26, starting Dimboola Library and finish at the Train Park.
Rainbow is next on December 2, beginning at Turbo Gallery and finishing at Rainbow Skate Park.
Jeparit is the last event on December 3, taking attendees from Menzies Square to the Riverbank Precinct.
Each event runs from 6pm to 7.30pm.
Attendees are asked to wear orange and bring banners or signs of support with all community members, schools, sporting clubs and other organisations being encouraged to attend.
The international campaign takes place from November 25, until December 10, each year and aims to unite communities and call for the elimination of gendered violence.
Anyone unable to join the walk is welcome to attend the free barbeque tea.
Hindmarsh Shire Council has received funding from Respect Victoria’s '16 Days of Activism Grassroots Initiative' for these events.
