Shelley kicks 10 in Bombers win
Noradjuha Quantong are proving themselves to be title favourites with a big win over the Swifts on Saturday in round 10 of the Horsham District Football Netball League.
The final score was Noradjuha Quantong 24.18 (162) to Swifts 2.6 (18).
Forward Dylan Shelley led the way for the Bombers with 10 goals, including a 55-metre opening-term goal that sailed through the posts.
Playing at Quantong, the visitors started strong, with Jordan Motton kicking the opening two goals to give the Swifts an early lead.
But Noradjuha Quantong responded immediately, kicking six goals to finish the term (including four from Shelley) to go up 40-15.
The Bombers quickly asserted themselves in the second and never looked back.
After going up 83-16 at half-time, Noradjuha Quantong scored 44 and 35 points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, while keeping the Swifts goalless in the second half.
The Bombers’ pace and effective disposals generated consistent looks for their forwards, who capitalised all game.
Along with Shelley, Jye Walters was one of the best players for Noradjuha Quantong, booting five goals of his own.
For the Swifts, Jordan Motton and Jesse Galea-Portelli were the best players.
Shelley was quick to credit his team for contributing to his 10-goal haul.
“Yeah, it was nice to have a game like that," he said.
“A lot of that was from the team delivering the ball to me in good spots."
Swifts coach Brett Hargreaves said he was disappointed by the effort despite the team being down several players.
“Unfortunately, we had illness hit a bit of the team in the lead-up and had to get some of the reserves doubling up,” Hargreaves said.
“Even still, we should have put in a much better display than that.”
The result pushes the Swifts down to fifth on the ladder.
Earlier in the day, Noradjuha Quantong drew 28-28 with the Swifts in reserve grade in the Swifts reserves' second draw of the season.
