Second chance clothing opportunity kicks off
HAVING lived in Dimboola for 23 years and raising four children, Kerrie Clarke said her arts and curatorial background has given her “a love of fashion, particularly second-hand” and even as a teenager she would often shop for second-hand fashion and “alter items to suit the fashion of the time.”
“I have wanted to put together something like the second-hand market for a few years,” she said.
“One day I just decided to put out an expression of interest on Facebook and see if I could get a few people together to have a one-off market, mainly to move some of my excess wardrobe.
“I was hoping to get perhaps a dozen people together to set up a market day, (but) I had close to 70 people contact me, all interested in having a stall – be careful what you wish for!”
So with momentum in motion, Kerrie decided a great (and cheap!) location would be the VRI Hall in Hindmarsh Street.
“My husband is part of the VRI (Victorian Rail Industry) and has spent his life in Dimboola,” she said.
“He is a driver trainer for Pacific National.
“The VRI is an ideal place to hold the clothing market as it is undercover and has bathroom facilities, and with a large speaker, offers a warm ambience.
“To add to the day, I spoke with Kaz from ‘Caffe de Kerb’, who was keen to support the day with coffee and toasties for the visitors.”
Kerrie was very pleased with the response on Sunday – “The initial market was great with everyone making money” – and was looking forward to the next one.
“There have been lots of suggestions for the market going forward with many offers of assistance and support,” she said.
“I will be assessing the future of the market and improvements to ensure a further reach and growth.”
