St Mary’s Catholic Primary School was filled with excitement on the first day of the 2026 school year, especially for the 24 Foundation pupils beginning their school journey.

These new students are the first to have their progress formally tracked from Foundation through their entire school experience.

"As a school, we track our students' progress, but this is a structured program by Monash University, so it creates real accountability for every level," principal Julie Leonard said.

"It will track literary and systematic growth."

Reading, writing, and comprehension will be monitored throughout the school.

"Foundation teachers this year are Jess Lang, Claire Schulz and William Vo,” Ms Leonard said.

"There are two sets of twins and six new staff members, so there are many exciting changes.”

New staff members include William Vo, Anjina Chand, Berny Trounce, Mitch Bright, Mel Bentley, and Brooke Rentsch.

"We are looking forward to specialist classes in art, music, wellbeing, digital technology, Japanese, physical education, and library this year," she said.
