Sarah Cross ready for Quambatook
Beulah tractor puller Sarah Cross will return to the Australian Tractor Pull Championships at the Quambatook Tractor Pull this Easter Sunday, aiming to put on a strong show in the supermodified class.
Ms Cross said she was excited to head back to one of the sport’s best-known events, where she and her family have competed many times before.
“Just going and having a good time, catching up with friends and putting up a really good show for the crowd,” she said.
Ms Cross competes in the supermodified category, where her tractor is powered by twin V8 Holden engines.
She expects a competitive field in the class this year.
“Our tractors have two engines, as they’re two V8 Holden engines,” she said.
She said four tractors were likely to line up in her category, making for a strong contest at Quambatook.
Despite the challenge, Ms Cross said she would head into the championships with confidence, knowing that success often depends on conditions as much as performance.
“We’re always hopeful,” she said.
“It just depends on the day really, what the track’s like and how the track is going, and then it all comes down to luck.”
Ms Cross has competed at Quambatook several times and said the event remained a favourite on the calendar.
“We’ve competed at Quambatook quite a few times now,” she said.
“It’s a great place.”
Last year, Ms Cross finished second in the opening round before a weight issue pushed her back to fourth place.
She said the experience was a reminder of how fine the margins could be in tractor pulling.
Looking ahead to this year’s event, she said improvement was always the goal.
“You’re only as good as your last pull,” she said.
For Ms Cross, the Quambatook Tractor Pull is more than just competition.
With her husband serving as president of the Australian Tractor Pulling Association and her two children heavily involved in the sport, she said the event is a family occasion as well.
“It’s a fantastic family day out,” she said.
Ms Cross also encouraged spectators to get involved, meet competitors and bring children along to experience the machinery up close.
“Just get there and when the pits open, come out and say hello,” she said.
“Bring your kids out and we’ll put them on the tractors and let them have a really good look around.”
