Sara Storer returns to Laharum
Sara Storer is an Australian award-winning country singer-songwriter, and after a sell-out concert in Laharum two years ago, she returns to the Wimmera in March for two appearances at the Laharum Community Hall.
"After a sell-out show on Saturday night, we decided to go for Round 2 and book Friday night," she said.
"I loved the audience at Laharum last time I was there and can't wait to return, and this time I have a new album, and I'm keen to share that with the Laharum community this time around."
Sara said there is something special about the smell of country halls, the creak of the floorboards and tiny stages that she loves.
"The country halls have a real country feel about them, and people just turn up with their packed supper, cheese and biscuits, slices of watermelon and their eskies and they settle back for a night thinking about the music and not much else," she said.
"And that's what I love, I share my stories, and sometimes I think I share too much, but I think people can associate with some of that with their own lives, and I hope that is a good thing."
Sara said her new album is primarily about things that have happened in her life since she was in the Wimmera last time, and she is thrilled to have her brother Greg performing with her again this time.
Greg is also a country music singer-songwriter, and they have recorded and performed together for many years.
"I love the bushies that turn up for a night off and let the music take them on a journey," she said.
"Albums are great, and I love that people play them on the tractor, in the farm ute or wherever they may be, but you know live music allows a few hic cups, a chat in between, someone to call out and perhaps get emotional if a song affects them that way.
"That's the beauty of live music," she said. "There is a connection with the audience, and we feed off each other," she said.
"It's like a big club."
While the new album is primarily written by Sara and the songs are about her personal experiences, there will be a cover or two that she believes people will enjoy.
One of her earlier songs, Beautiful Circle, will feature on both nights as one of her most requested songs.
"It has been requested so many times that I include it now wherever I go," she said.
She won a record-breaking seven Golden Guitar awards at the Tamworth Music Festival in 2004 and a further ten in the following years.
She has also won numerous Aria awards, and her albums have charted in the top 30 many times.
Sara grew up in the Mallee in North West Victoria but lives in the Northern Territory at Humpty Doo with her family.
Sara Storer will be performing at the Laharum Community Hall on Northern Grampians Road on Friday, March 20, and Saturday, 21.
The barbecue will begin at 5.30pm followed by the Show at 7pm.
Saturday night is sold out, but tickets are on sale for Friday night.
Sara will be joined by Special Guests The Stewies and Greg Storer on Friday night and Leah Briggs and Greg Storer on Saturday Night.
