Saints too strong for Southern Roos
Edenhope Apsley’s A grade netball side maintained their unbeaten start to the 2026 Horsham District Football Netball League season with a 56-35 round six win over Harrow Balmoral.
Playing at home, the Saints adapted to the wet conditions quickly, building a 19-7 lead at the first break.
But the Southern Roos disrupted the home side in the second quarter while capitalising on their own opportunities, reducing the deficit to 10 (30-20) at halftime.
The Saints adjusted well after halftime, forcing Harrow Balmoral turnovers while making improved entries into the goal circle, eventually taking a 44-26 lead into the final break.
Both teams played out a competitive final quarter, with the Saints finishing with a 21-goal victory.
Dee Dee Lambert had another strong performance in goals for Edenhope Apsley, making 39 goals from 45 attempts, while Lavinia Fox had 17 goals of her own.
Centre Hannah Magasanik was one of the best on court with her performance at centre.
For the Southern Roos, Megan Little had a strong game in goals, finishing with 26 goals, while Chloe Langley also performed well in the midcourt.
Among the other results in round six, Laharum continued their undefeated start to the season with a comfortable 60-25 victory over the Swifts.
At Cameron Oval, pouring rain impacted both sides’ ability to maintain possession in the first quarter, with the Demons taking a 9-4 lead at the first break.
But the Demons were able to minimise turnovers in the second quarter, scoring 21 goals to lead 30-13 at halftime.
Laharum maintained control in the second half, extending their lead before winning by 35.
Goalies Ilze Van Zyl and Caitlin Jones-Story were accurate yet again, shooting 32 and 28 goals, respectively.
Wing attack Maddie Iredell was one of the best on court, delivering effectively to shooters all game.
Jade Ralph was one of the best on court for the Swifts, finishing with 15 goals, while Sarah Morris added 10.
At Kalkee, Noradjuha Quantong bounced back from their round five loss with a decisive 47-27 win over the Kees.
The Bombers led from the outset, extending their quarter-time lead (10-6) to go up 24-15 at halftime.
Kalkee remained with a dozen goals at the final break before the visitors closed out the game strongly to win by 20.
Shannon Couch had a great game in goals, knocking down 35 shots, while Ashlee Morrish had 12 goals.
Centre Jess Leader and goal defence Leah Mirtschin had strong games on both sides of the ball.
For Kalkee, Isobelle Schorback and Jarrah Martin scored 14 and 11 goals, respectively, while Emily Polack and Georgia Schultz were named the side’s best players.
At Pimpinio, the Tigers survived a third-quarter slump to defeat Rupanyup 49-32.
The home side got off to a flying start, leading the Panthers 13-5 at quarter time and extending their lead to 10 (25-15) at halftime.
Rupanyup then ignited a second-half comeback, reducing the deficit to five goals (32-27) by the last break.
But Pimpinio quickly recovered, scoring 17 last-quarter goals to finish 17-point winners.
Tahlia Thompson was one of the Tigers’ best with 29 goals, while Mikayla Dumesny added 20 of her own.
Keely Pope also had a strong game for the Tigers in the midcourt.
For Rupanyup, Phoebe Downer impressed with 26 goals, while Gemma Morgan and Rhianan Woods were impressive at centre and goal keeper, respectively.
At Dock Lake, Kaniva Leeor United further solidified themselves in the top five with a 49-28 defeat of Taylors Lake.
Both teams started well offensively, with the Cougars leading 14-10 at quarter time.
A strong defensive effort from the visitors limited the Lakers to four goals in the second quarter, extending their lead to 10 (24-14) at halftime.
Taylors Lake kept within reach in the third quarter, before a 15-5 final quarter from the Cougars ensured their fourth victory of the season.
Abby Croft was again strong in goals for Kaniva Leeor, finishing with 34 goals, while Nikki Hawker had 15.
Tayla Eltze and Madison Scott had 13 and 11 goals, respectively, for the Lakers, with Chloe and Kayla Kelm among the best for the home side.
