Saints host in-form Bombers
Edenhope Apsley’s senior football side faces a daunting matchup in round four of the Horsham District Football Netball League as they host 2025 grand finalists Noradjuha Quantong this Saturday, May 1.
The Saints are yet to record a win in the opening three rounds, but will feel encouraged by their last two performances.
The side was in a strong position in the fourth quarter against Rupanyup in round two before going down by 10 points, and led Kaniva Leeor into the second quarter in round three before the Cougars dominated the middle portion of the game.
As well as being the better team in recent games, Edenhope Apsley have received good performances from recruits Matt Hodge, Pierce Ferguson and Corey Williams, while giving valuable experience to youngsters like Marcus McIntyre.
But the Saints undoubtedly face their toughest challenge yet, going against a Noradjuha Quantong team who defeated Harrow Balmoral in round two and finished strongly in their victory over Natimuk United.
Pleased with their 3-0 start to the season amidst some early-season injuries, Bombers coach Damian Cameron is keen to keep their form going.
“We've had a few injuries, so having blokes coming in and out and of the side doesn't help, but to be 3 and zip is huge, especially when we've played against some good quality opposition so far,” he said.
“So if we can keep our run on for another couple of weeks, obviously Laharam's huge in a couple of weeks' time, but we'll look at Edenhope firstly and see who's available and try to move to that 4-0.”
The Bombers' coach believes the side can improve even more by minimising their in-game lapses.
“Against Natimuk, there were times where they controlled the footy a lot more and had a lot of inside 50s, so that’s something we’re definitely going to have to fix up,” Cameron said.
“But I think it's more of an organisation thing and communicating between the blokes; not just having a few leaders but turning everyone into a leader and stopping those lapses in play.”
