Saints cruise home over Nhill
Horsham Saints had a comfortable win against Nhill, 16.10 (106) to 10.20 (80) in the most recent round of the Wimmera Football Netball League.
Nhill earned a handy lead in the first quarter, going up by 20 points, but by half-time the Horsham side had reversed that and were up by four points.
Saints coach Angus Martin said the opposition came out of the blocks and dominated his side in the first quarter.
"But we held our nerve and steadied," Martin said.
"We had a couple of injuries early which hurt us but we made a couple of changes position-wise and were able to get the game back on our terms.
"We knew in the third Nhill would come hard again, having the wind, but we were able to restrict their run and carry and were able to counterattack.
"Our handball game and positive ball movement were key to that."
The lead to Horsham was out to a goal going into the final quarter before the Saints finished more strongly than their opposition, scoring 4.3 to Nhill's 1.1.
"We just put them away and kept going all quarter," Martin said.
"The most pleasing thing is how we only had one on the bench and the boys dug deep, again running the game out really well."
The home side's better players included Lucas Dahlenburg, Matt Kennedy and Tom Wheaton while coach Jake McQueen was among three Nhill players to score a couple of goals each.
Alexander McRae, Cody Bryan and Reid Muller were the better players for the victors, with Zac Peake brilliant for the side in the forward 50, booting four majors.
