Over 50 Warracknabeal kids have successfully completed three weeks of VICSWIM lessons, ensuring our local children are safe and confident in the water.

Swimming instructor, Horsham’s Jasmine Smith, is currently studying to gain her primary school and special education qualifications in Melbourne and, after attaining her AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence, took a summer position at Warracknabeal's swimming pool.

Teaching a range of lessons across five levels of swimming proficiency, Ms Smith said her first year as a swimming instructor has been a wonderful experience.

“The kids are the best, they’re such a good group, and all of the parents and staff at the pools are so friendly and lovely,” she said.

"The lifeguards helped me set up and made it so easy.

“It had been so rewarding, seeing the improvement in their skills in the past three weeks, from not being able to swim to doing backstroke and freestyle.”

Ms Smith said the beginners class focused more on building confidence and familiarity with water, while the advanced classes practiced more complex swimming styles.

Since 1976, the VICSWIM Summer Kidz program has been providing children ages 4 to 12 years old the the opportunity to develop positive experiences in relation to water safety, and learn how to be confident and competent in the water.
