Ryan 'excited about local list' as he joins Nhill as senior co-coach
Trevor Ryan joins Jake McQueen as co-coach of the Tigers for 2025.
After the club broke a long football finals drought in 2024, the Nhill Tigers have added experience to its coaching ranks for the 2025 WFNL season.
Trevor Ryan has joined the club as seniors' co-coach after he spent the past four seasons with Birchip-Watchem in the North Central Football League.
"I'm very excited, to come across from a different competition to a new club certainly motivates you to get out there and do the best you can," Ryan said.
"To be coaching in the Wimmera league is something I'm looking forward to."
With a coaching career that has included time in the AFL's Elite Talent pathway with the Bendigo Pioneers in the now Coates Talent League and Richmond's next-generation academy, Ryan is looking forward to working with a young, local list.
Ryan also previously held the role of AFL Sunraysia development manager.
"It's a local list and that excites me a fair bit... There's not a lot of travelling players that are coming into the team, so we're virtually going with what's out there," he said.
"They're young and willing to learn, and [with] my background in development it is certainly going to help those younger guys out there.
"We've got some areas we can really improve on, and it's all about improving individuals and the team at the same time."
Despite fellow co-coach Jake McQueen currently in the Northern Territory playing with Southern Districts, the pair have spent time together to map out the club's pre-season which began on November 27.
"I've spent a bit of time with Jake, and had a few meetings with him in regards to players on the list, and [had] spoken to most of the players on the list as well," Ryan said.
"[McQueen's] certainly done a great job getting them into that final and they have got a really good group out there that's just starting to get a few games under their belt now and play some consistent footy.
"Hopefully we can build on that improvement last year and go a little bit deeper this year."
