Runs galore in junior cricket
Round 12 of the Horsham Cricket Association junior competition was defined by impressive batting performances across most games.
In the under-16s, the Dunmunkle Renegades, Horsham Tigers and Bullants all recorded strong totals to secure victories on Friday, February 13.
At Dimboola Recreation Reserve, the Renegades elected to bat against Blackheath Dimboola and amassed 7/152 in 22 overs.
Finnian Delahunty led the side with 48 of 45 balls, Jake McKenzie had 39 off 34, while Ryder Hudson smashed 34 off just 18 balls.
For the Bulls, Dane Paech was superb with the ball, finishing with 4/11 from his four overs, while Edward Schorback had 1/13.
The Bulls fell 24 runs short in their innings with a total of 5/128, led by a run-a-ball 51 retired not out from Max Spokes, while Albert Schorback had 22.
Finnian Delahunty continued his strong game with 2/10 with the ball, and Braxton Starick had 1/7.
At Sunnyside Recreation Reserve, the Tigers elected to bat against Homers, where they scored 3/146.
Callum Jackson smashed four sixes on his way to 50 (retired not out) off just 31 balls, well supported by Joel Plazzer (48 off 55) and 25 (21) not out from Archie Knight.
Charlie Hopper led Homers with figures of 2/14, while Dusty Peucker had 1/9.
In reply, Homers posted 3/122, led by strong performances from Phoenix Hopper (50 off 47, retired not out) and Henry Walsgott (48 from 61).
For the Tigers, Anderson Brown produced an economical 1/2 from his two overs, and Callum Jackson had 1/9.
At Noradjuha Recreation Reserve, the Horsham Saints elected to bowl against the Bullants, who smashed 22 boundaries on their way to 2/179 in just 22 overs.
Opening batsmen Jack Combe (54 of 40 balls) and Mason Hair (50 of 43) both retired not out, while Milton Ellis and Joshua Price had 20 and 18, respectively.
For the Saints, Jackson Tuohey (1/11) and Cooper Myers (1/17) took the wickets.
In reply, the visitors were bowled out for 52, led by 16 from Alan Kuriakose and 14 from Hunter Schmidt.
Leading the Bullants with the ball were Jeremy Fischer (3/5) and Milton Ellis (3/6), who each took three wickets, while Angus Crute had 1/1.
The Tigers, Renegades and Bullants also produced wins in the under-14s competition on Saturday morning.
At Dimboola Road Oval, West Wimmera elected to bowl against the Tigers, who scored 4/130 from their 20 overs.
Lenny Carter (23 from 20 balls), Arckie Mackley (20 from 14) and Peter Smith (20 from 18) all retired not out for the Tigers.
For the Warriors, Oakley Moylan (1/3) and Darcy Borgelt (1/10) impressed with the ball.
In response, the Warriors put up a competitive run chase but were ultimately bowled out for 112.
Jack Dodds (28 off 39), Lenny Shurdington (23 off 22), Clayton Hiscock (22 off 22) and Mitchell Hendy (23 not out from 10) all had impressive knocks.
Felix Foster was immense with the ball for the Tigers, taking 4/5, while Tex Askew had 2/5 and Harvey Brown took 2/13.
At Les Howland Oval, Blackheath Dimboola elected to bat against the Renegades and finished at 8/78 from their 20 overs.
Edward Schorback retired not out on 21 (18), while Archie Ward scored 12 not out.
The wickets were shared among the Renegades, with Judd Thomson and Lenny McQueen both finishing with 1/1.
Dunmunkle then reached 3/117, led by retired not out innings from Braxton Starick (22 off 14) and Jagger Williams (18 off 20), while McMCurdy finished the innings with 15 not out from nine deliveries.
Roary Hadzig was the solitary wicket-taker for the Bulls, finishing with 2/4.
At Noradjuha Recreation Reserve, the Saints elected to bat and totalled 7/56, led by 12 not out from James Mackereth and 8 not out from Max Barber.
For the Bullants, Jack Arnel finished with 2/3, while Judd Oakley and Jazz Hopper had 1/3 and 1/4, respectively.
The Bullants then reached 5/163 in their innings, with unbeaten knocks from Oscar Combe (23 of 17), Jack Arnell (21 off 25), Judd Oakley (20 off 8), Milton Ellis (20 off 10), and Zack Pickering (20 off 11).
In turn, the Saints were led with the ball by Beau Hudson (2/12) and Daniel Dossett (1/12).
