RSL Friends invite new blood
As the last strains of the Remembrance Day bugle fade away, Friends of the Rainbow RSL is putting out a call for new members.
"The Rainbow sub-branch of the RSL was formed in 1918," Friends president Peter Gosling said.
"Over the years it had many active members, namely World War I and II veterans.
"The passing of time saw a natural decline in membership and, consequently, in 2008 the Friends of the Rainbow RSL was formed.
"This committee consisted of enthusiastic local ex-service personnel and volunteers.
"However, once again the ravages of time have left us with only seven active members, and half of these dedicated volunteers are looking to step back from their current involvement."
Mr Gosling said the group's annual general meeting at the RSL clubrooms on Monday November 25 would be open to all local residents.
"I invite any interested community members to come along and join our committee," he said.
"Our main role is to host the annual Remembrance Day and Anzac Day services and to maintain our Federal Street clubrooms and surrounds.
"Please consider joining us to support this important part of Rainbow’s heritage."
The meeting will begin at 7.30pm.
